Archaeopteryx (meaning Ancient Wing) is said by many of the scientific community to be the first bird, making it possibly 150 million years of age.
Fosssils of the species have been discoverd in Germany in 8 diffrent locations at diffrent times.
The first fossil was found only two years after Charles Darwin's Origin of species was puplished helping him fund his point that intellegent life exsisted before humans.
He said that it proves that birds have evolved fom dinosaurs. Meaning that perhaps creationisim is untrue. (Jack McCreadie)
Archaeopteryx was found in solnhofen limestone in Southern Germany. Archaeopteryx is considered by many to be the first bird, being of about 150 million years of age. It is actually intermediate between the bids that we see everyday flying in and around are backyards and the predatory Dinosaurs like Deinonychus. in fact, one skeleton of archaeopteryx that had poorly preserved feathers was originally described as a skeleton of a small bipedal dinosaur, Compsognathus. A total of seven specimens of the bird are known at this time.It has long been accepted that archaeopteryx was a transitional form between birds and reptiles, and that it is the earliest known bird. (Scott Anderson)
Its one of the oldest birds, said to be about 150 million years old
its name is sometimes reffered to as urvogel by the germans which means "orginal bird" or " first bird"
they were about the size of a raven and lived in the south of germany in warm shallow waters
it can grow to about 0.5 in length
it has broad wings which make it easy to fly
it has very sharp teeth and big jaw which can bite off fingers at the same time
it is important for the studies of orginal birds and dinasours
