Above is a copy of the plot triangle (forgive me - I am not the best at using Paint!)
Exposition:
Where we are introduced to the characters in the story
Setting is also introduced - a dark, stormy night can tell us that something bad is going to happen.
Rising Action:
Is where we begin to get clues about what might go wrong in the climax (main part/problem/conflict).
Wee problems may happen that get the reader to know that something is going to go wrong.
Climax:
This is the part that everything in the story has been leading up to.
This is the main problem or conflict in the story. For the story to end satisfactorily, this climax/problem must be sorted, or resolved.
This should be the part that everyone should most remember in a story.
Falling Action:
This is where the big problem begins to get sorted, so that it can be resolved in the end in a way that will please the reader.
Resolution:
Is where the main problem (climax) is resolved (fixed). With the problem being sorted out, the story can end in a way that will please the reader. It will mean that any questions the reader had during the climax should now have been answered in the resolution.
