Above is a copy of the plot triangle (forgive me - I am not the best at using Paint!)

Exposition:
  • Where we are introduced to the characters in the story
  • Setting is also introduced - a dark, stormy night can tell us that something bad is going to happen.

Rising Action:
  • Is where we begin to get clues about what might go wrong in the climax (main part/problem/conflict).
  • Wee problems may happen that get the reader to know that something is going to go wrong.

Climax:
  • This is the part that everything in the story has been leading up to.
  • This is the main problem or conflict in the story. For the story to end satisfactorily, this climax/problem must be sorted, or resolved.
  • This should be the part that everyone should most remember in a story.

Falling Action:
  • This is where the big problem begins to get sorted, so that it can be resolved in the end in a way that will please the reader.

Resolution:
  • Is where the main problem (climax) is resolved (fixed). With the problem being sorted out, the story can end in a way that will please the reader. It will mean that any questions the reader had during the climax should now have been answered in the resolution.
